Catherine Beatrice Keeler was born in a house on Cambridge St. in Philadelphia, Pa. She was christened and attended the Fletcher Methodist Episcopal Church. In the summer of 1917, the family moved to 4043 Ogden St., Philadelphia. The home was near her father's work at the Y.M.C.A. From an early age, her parents taught Catherine the love of music. During her growing years, she had lots of opportunities to sing and play the piano or organ in the church. She fondly rememers family camping trips to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland. The family also made trips to Johnstown, Pa., where her grandparents lived. In 1928 she was graduated from Overbrook High School and later attended Philadelphia Bible Institute (now Philadelphia Bible College). She was employed by the offices of Acme Markets in Philadelphia when she met and married Rev. Clifford A. Curtis in 1937 - 38. Having a real love for the Lord and church music, she worked along with her husband as he was the pastor of various churches. Catherine was a meticulous person who enjoyed creating crafts with intricate detail. Her music and sewing reflected that part of her personality. She also did carpentry work at times. She loved the Lord, was courageous. She had a lot of determination until her last month of life. She was diagnosed with bone cancer on March 14, and died of heart failure on the 16th. We are all thankful that she did not have to suffer longer than that and we know that she is happy being with her Lord whom she knew so well. |
