ninth of 12 children...Scot brothers owned dry-goods stores in several townsin north central Illinois...Samuel entered the store at Ottawa...lived therewith his bride for a year...moved to Streator and to Bloomington, returning to Ottawa in April, 1874...moved to Salina,KS where Mr. Scott and his brother-in-law, Luther TYressler, opened The Citizens' Bank; hard times closed the bank (with all obligations met) in 1891...returned to Ottawa where Mr. Scott re-entered the dry-goods business, retiring in 1902...spent 1903-4 in Europe and the Near East and two years in California...in San Francisco area in the great earthquake and fire. In 1906 they bought the former Loy and Tressler farms at Loysville...generally spending winters in the south...Mr. Scott was a Presbyterian elder, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, on Illinois Synod's Committee for colleges, etc.,..Mrs. Scott...developed many unusual projects...Mrs. Scott's health broke in her later years...Mr. Scott died in his 76th year at Galen Hall, Wernersville of sudden failure of the heart....Mrs. Scott died in a nursing home at Yonkers, NY...bothwere buried at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago... |
