lived in Peabody, KS from 1885-1894 where her father was a banker...I recallher marked proficiency in horseback riding, rifle shooting, outdoor gymnasium, etc., and her reluctance to have them interupted by elocution and music lessons. However, Mabel's music training developed her natural talent and she spent a year in special music study in Leipsic, Germany...entered Irving College at mechanicsburg, PA in 1893 where she received her B.A. in 1897 (when 19years of age) and her M.A. in 1899. She was a graduate student at Bryn MawrCollege from 1897-99...was married to William Gies by her uncle Rev. Dr. James W. Richard on May 24, 1899...William and Mabel have four children... |
