...from his ninth to his eighteenth years, he lived in Peabody, KS, where I admired him as a fine shot with guns, a fearless rider of ponies and horses, aprize declaimer and orator, an accomplished musician, and a very popular youth. His family moved to millersburg, PA in 1894. Charles attended Gettysburg College, led in many activities...graduated in 1898...then took a B.A. at Yale University in 1899, an M.A. in 1900, and in 1902, an LL.B. from Yale LawSchool, where I recall the seniors voting him ' 'the brightest man, the most popular man, and the man who had done the most for the class.' ' He prcticed lawin New York City from 1902-1946, writing wills and settling estates including that of Mark Twain...was generous of his time and talent to poor persons, charitable organizations and relatives...always active in church...wrote wordsand music for numerous Christian hymns...served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Trustees of Gettysburg College and served many organizations...interred at the Lark family plot at Millersburg, PA... |
