per ' 'The Family of John Loy and Elizabeth Loy Tressler' '...' 'loy' ' was a gay, clever and vivacious girl, gladly seconded by her youngest sister ' 'Annie' '. Inheriting their father's spirit and independence, these lasttwo children missedsome of the paternal training, which may account partly forthe unusual freedom and resourcefulness with which they always lived and served. Loyetts wentfrom Loysville Academy to the Susquehanna Female College at Selingsgrove, PAwhere she probably specialized in music. She then taughtmusic in LoysvilleAcademy and in its successor, the Soldiers' Orphan Home. While visiting Millersburg in Sept 1869, she met her future husband, Henry Lark. In December ofthat year, she and her sister, Anna, went to Mendota, Illinois to join theirmother and other members of their family who had just settled there. With her mother, Loyetta moved to Sterling, and then in 1872 (?) to Carthage, IL. ..On Sept 16, 1874 in her home in Carthage,...Loyetta was married by her brother David, to Henry Lewis Lark, the only child of Simon and Sarah Boyer Lark...Mr. Lark was a lawyer and a member of the Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PABar from 1873-1928. He and his wife's brother, Dr. Josiah E Tressler, was abanker in Peabody, KS from 1885 to 1894, when the Lark family returned to Millersburg, near Harrisburg. ' 'Uncle Lark' ' was fond of fine horses and loved to drive them fast...some were too good forus children ever to ride...we tookdelight in feeding, watering, and rubbing them. Mr. lark was a member of Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree, and a leader in many organizations...serving on thedraft board in WWI. Mr. and Mrs. Lark were faithful members ...in the Lutheran Church...and gave generously of their timme and money to many worthy causes. While spending the winter of 1927-28 in San Antonio, TX where they helpedfound a new church, they passed away, Mrs. Lark dying a week after her husband...they were laid to rest...in the Millersburg, PA cemetery... |
