...graduated Loysville Academy...taught there...August 1862 joined LoysvilleMilitary Company...after the Battle of Fredericksburg...Josiah (then a corporal) was ordered to take several dozen seriously wounded Perry County men by boat to Washingtonfor hospital treatmentincluding all three captains of the three perry County Companies of the 133rd Regiment-Sheibly, Demaree, and Tressler...after his war service, he studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania...graduated in 1866...practiced in Illinois...about 1880 he and George W. Shupe opened a Real Estate and loan Agency in Peabody, KS...active in church and community affairs...respected for his friendliness and integrity, he lived in his pleasant home, ' 'LutherLawn' ' until his death in his 91st year, the last survivor of his family generation and of his Civil War Company...was buried with honors in Restland Cemetery at Loysville. Unmarried. |
