Notes
![]() Note |
per ' 'The Family of Loy-Tressler' '... John Michael was known as Michael in theusual custom of German families in using the second name as the identifying name...born in Tulpehocken, the second child of Casper Reith (1702-1788?) andMargaret (1709-1760)...were three Michael Rieth cousins in this generation...our Michael was the one who married Maria Cathine Haag of northern Tulpehocken, possibly a daughter of Nicholas Hag (sometimes spelled Hagg and Hock) first settlers of Bernville, notheaast of Stouchburg...oldest Haag (pronounce 'Hague' locally) graves are back of the church in town with birth dates back to1737...later graves are in the ' 'Haag Cemetery' '...north of town...family records indicate that our Michael Reed, in the War of Independence, served in John Hurling's Company, 2nd Battalion, Berks County Militia...most eligible Reeds were evidently in the Army, including all six of Leonhart's sons and four sons of Leonhart, Jr. including Valentine and Jacob who were officers and body guards of General Washington at Valley Forge...and Adam was a fifer...Michael and Maria Catherine had seven or eight children, the youngest of whom wasAnna Margaret Reed... the list of children of John Michael Rieth (Reed) andMaria Catherine Haag Rieth was prepared by C. I. Lindemuth in 1907 for my mother [author of Loy-Tressler Family-George Tressler Scott]list should be trustworthy, but it differs from other findings... Baptismal sponsors: Michael Rith and wife (Reed's Churchbook) He was confirmed Easter 1752, aged 20 3/4 yrs. (Tulpehocken Churchbook) He inherited his father's farm in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks Co. PA (' 'The Tulpehocken Reeds' ') |
