George was 12 years old when his parents Michael and Margaret Loy, moved 'west' and settled on the farm near the present day Loysville. When he was 21, he went back to Berks County in 1797 and married Anna Margaret Reed of the Tulpehocken communitythe groom's parents urged them to remain upon the farm Michael had recently bought of John Hamilton [which they did]...early in 1800 George went to Ohio and bought land which he traded for local land...later was atax collector for Tyrone Township...he and his brothers were among the larger tax payers of the township...the Loy family were quiet, worthy and respected members of their community...George and Margaret were buried in Lebonon Church Cemetery, Loysville. |
