On May 8, 1755 Christian Lower sold to Peter Rieth, for 5 shillings, one half (102 acres) of his newly acquired land. This was the western part of Leonhardt's tract running on a straight line north and south along the Michael Ernst and Michael Rieth tracts and the survey again indicated it as Plantation Land. (Vol. A-1, page 199 - Berks Co. PA). It is recorded that Peter lived for some time on his father's homestead and may have helped run the mill and probably farm some of the land, but in 1763 he and his wife bought the farm of 149 acres from Adam Lesh and his wife Sophia. |
