Was living with sister Charity in Douglas Co. Mo. in 1860. In 1878 accompanied the Hayden party to Yellowstone as a packer & guide. Was 1st game keeper or civilian ranger in U.S. Forest Service. Yount Peak in Yellowstone was named for him; picture is in museum of Dept. of Interior, Washington, as first Forest Ranger. |
